Book Lists

Horses are beautiful and intriguing animals. And if you love horses and cannot get enough of them, you may be known as horse-crazy!  This list includes children's picture books, young readers, classic horse stories, newer endearing stories and a few non-fiction titles.  The Alvin Sherman Library children's collection also includes books on specific breeds of horses that can be found in the call number area of J 636.1.

First day jitters? Help put your little ones at ease with a selection of charming, humorous, and uplifting books about school. This list, geared toward students in primary grades, will focus on the worries and wonders of a child's (and teacher's!) very first day at school.

May is Latino Books Month! Many of the books in this list are Pura Belpre award winners or honor books.  The award is named after Pura Belpré, the first Latina librarian at the New York Public Library. It is presented annually to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
