Excerpts from two films will be shown.
SL Luft III The Great Escape and The Lost Airmen of Buchenwald
Lost Airmen of Buchenwald is a 2012 documentary on the story behind the imprisonment of 168 Allied airmen at the Buchenwald Concentration Camp during World War II.
Following the films, artist Marilyn Johansen will talk about the historical significance of the films. Marilyn’s watercolors are on display in the current exhibit Courage and Commitment: An Exhibition Honoring Those Who Serve in the Cotilla Gallery,
Johansen is the daughter of Eugene F. Phillips. Although Phillips was not one of the lost airmen, he was a Prisoner of War soldier at Stalag Luft III, who met the airmen there when they were eventually transferred from Buchenwald.
